I come from a country (Canada) where there is no death penalty, here this man would have been spared...it seems the man had redeemed himself, done considerable good while in prison but this was ignored. It seems these 'Christians' advocating the death penalty are a particularly unforgiving lot...will they not be judged accordingly at the end of their lives??? Yes...that is in the Bible. I remember Ms. Tucker, she too had redeemed herself yet received the same fate...something is severely amiss down Texas way.

To be more precise Gary, it is the God of Jewish lore, although the Christians claim the same God. My opening paragraph states that this is a tribal God. Jesus was moving away from this vindictive God whom it appears you still want to emulate. Of course "thugs" need to be disciplined. What would Texas look like if we spent as much $$ and energy trying to rehabilitate people instead of labeling and killing them? I realize some people are so broken and twisted that they cannot be restored. David Powell was not in that number.

has texas executed more people than the God of christian lore? Has Texas wiped out cities and nations, in the guise of too much sexual activity and all sin. no just murderers, ?Texans can not pretend to be God but can do His work. Texans have not taken as many lives as your neighborhood thugs. give thos thugs your wallet that will teach them caring and love. it is worth it to save a life. give them money every day and a hug. see if they change.let me know how that works out, if you still have any fingers to type with.

I agree, Chuck. I was reminded of Karla Fay Tucker, in the 90's when Bush was governor - similar circumstances, altho she hadn't been imprisoned nearly as long as Powell. All the pleas for clemency, based on how she had rehabilitated herself and had helped other prisoners, were rebuffed.I remember reading that someone asked Bush after he became president if he had had any second thoughts about her execution, and he replied "Nope - no reason for any second thoughts."

Just because the prisoner in Utah requested the firing squad didn't mean that officials had to agree. That one just made me sick.
